House Information

What is?

The House System at Cowley is a valuable part of school life. The house system allows every student and member of staff to feel a sense of belonging.   By being a member of the house family, students and staff are encouraged to show team spirit as all of the houses thrive on the ethos of “it’s the taking part that counts”.

Each house is represented by a colour and staff wear lanyards to clearly reflect the house family they are part of, from September 2016, every student will wear a coloured pin badge that indicates the house they are in.  Having all staff and all years as part of each house family breaks down barriers between year groups and staff/students and creates a sense of togetherness; in particular encouraging the older students to look out for the younger ones. There are chances to earn points for your house in and outside of the curriculum. Examples include a good piece of written work, a high test result or a worthwhile contribution in class discussions. As well as this we raise a strong sense of team spirit at our annual Sports day and everyone is keen to represent their house and to earn points. At the end of the academic year all House Points are added up and one house wins the overall trophy.

About the different Houses

All students and staff belong to one of six houses: Celts, Romans, Teutons, Trojans, Spartans or Vikings.
