Shaping Futures

Shaping Futures aim to provide all secondary schools and colleges across the Liverpool City region with comprehensive, impartial information, advice and support on all matters relating to Higher Education in one easily accessible place.

As a partnership of 12 local providers of Higher Education, Shaping Futures are committed to ensuring students, parents, teachers and advisers are fully equipped to better understand the Higher Education landscape, to access outreach locally and to support learners with the HE decision making process.

The Shaping Futures Hub provides a one stop shop for teachers and advisers to identify what outreach support is available across the Liverpool City Region, offering secondary schools and colleges access to a range of Higher Education appropriate information, useful links and handy materials. As part of the Uni Connect Programme, Shaping Futures are dedicated to helping all students access places in Higher Education.

The goal of the Shaping Futures Hub is to pool local outreach resources and to provide the Liverpool City Region (including St Helens) with a platform for improving students’ participation in university courses through collaborative activity, support and information.

Further details of their support programme can be found on the website https://shaping-futures.org.uk/type/parents/.

STEM

Shaping Futures have collaborated with All About Stem to create a 6 Week STEM Club. Aimed at KS3 students, this comprises 6 sets of worksheets with activities for students to explore a different STEM area. 6 Week STEM Clubs can be done during lessons, as after school clubs, or set to be completed independently as a home learning activity.

Student Ambassadors

Shaping Futures now have Student Ambassadors from our 6 partner institutions (UoL, LJMU, Liverpool Hope, Edge Hill, LIPA & Chester University) available to live chat via our website on The Access Platform.

We have chosen a diverse range of students who are able to provide an insight into all areas of higher education including student life, choosing a course/university, applying to university, study skills – plus lots more!

This is a really valuable opportunity for pupils to speak directly with current students in their local area, who can provide a unique and in-depth overview of the benefits of HE, plus an insight into student life in the current climate.
