The 11-16 car park can become very busy in the morning during drop off and in an afternoon after college. Please do not use the carpark unless your child has a disability, a main entrance pass, or you have a prearranged meeting at the College. We need to ensure the carpark is safe and accessible for the students and families that require this area.
Some FAQs about drop off and pick up.
Can I use the main 11-16 carpark for a drop off or pick up
Yes, if your child has a disability, a main entrance pass, or you have an appointment.
What time does my child have to be in college in the morning?
Lesson 1 starts at 8:35. The first bell is at 8:33 and gates will close then, any student arriving after this time will need to sign in at the main entrance and will be issued a late mark and given a 1 hour detention.
Students arriving after 9.05am without a valid reason will be issued a red card.
Can my child arrive to college earlier?
Yes, free breakfast is available for all students from 8:00am in our canteen.
During parts of the year, there will be Breakfast Boost sessions for Y11. Keep an eye on our Y11 Exam Hub for more details.
What happens if we are running late?
We understand that mornings are busy and we also understand that punctuality is key employability attribute that we develop during schools. We encourage all students and parents to ‘do the prep’ the night before, so there is less of rush. Detentions are issued for students who are late as a deterrent (the vast majority of students are on time every day)
What time can I collect my child at the end of the day?
For most students college finishes at 2:50. However, this can be later for those students who have extracurricular clubs, Period 6 revision or detentions. There is no rush to collect your child at 2:50. Some parents let the rush disappear and collect their child 15 minutes later. All students can wait in the warmth of the canteen until their parent arrives.
What can the school do about the parking, particularly the congested areas by the main gate?
Areas around school are difficult at the start of day and when school finishes and can cause some unsafe situations with the parking, rushing and number of students and cars. The college staff supervise the area, but it requires parents to ensure they are parking appropriately. Please do not park in bus spaces, on pavements on school crossing zones and please respect our neighbours and the local residents. Most of our students are good walkers and you could arrange a pickup or drop off point a short walk away. A good walk is always good for our physical and mental health.
What can schools do about parents leaving their cars switched on and the engine running?
Health of our students is a priority for parents and school staff. We promote a clean air zone around the school. Please switch off your engines, save yourself some fuel and protect our students’ health.
How can I get a message to my child about pick up as the mobile policy does not allow them to check their phones?
Just call the main phone line and we will pass the message on.
Does the school receive complaints from the local community about the busy roads and parking around Cowley?
While we have a strong and positive relationship with our neighbours, we understand that the volume of traffic and parking can sometimes create challenges for them. With this in mind, we kindly ask all parents and carers to be considerate and mindful of our local residents to help maintain a positive and safe environment for everyone.
