Punctuality at School

As a school, we talk a lot about Professional Standards—and being on time is a key factor. It might seem like a small thing, but arriving at school on time each day is a Professional Standard and this really does set the tone for everything that follows.
Arriving late sets a rushed and unsettled tone for the day. Students miss important messages and activities during Team Time, and arriving late to lessons can distract others and disrupt learning. Over time, this can really add up—not just for the student who’s late, but for their classmates too.
Punctuality helps build good habits that matter now and in the future. It shows respect, responsibility, and helps students feel more settled and ready to learn.

Why Punctuality Matters
When students arrive on time, they start the day calmly, hear important announcements during Team Time, and are ready to learn. It helps them feel prepared and shows they’re taking their education seriously. These are life habits—not just school rules. In any job or course later on, being on time will be expected.
Most Students Are Doing the Right Thing
Let me say this first: most of our students get it right. They show up on time every day, ready to go—and we really appreciate that. But we do have a small group of students who are regularly late without a good reason, and this needs to change.
Being late doesn’t just affect them—it disrupts the start of the day for everyone else too.
New Punctuality System – Starting Monday, 23rd June
From Monday, 23rd June, a new punctuality system will be in place to help make sure every student gets the best possible start to their school day.
This new system is about setting clear expectations and supporting students in building good habits that will help them in school, in work, and in life.
Here’s What’s Changing
- If a student is late, they’ll continue to receive a same-day detention—this stays the same.
- If a student is seriously late (arriving well after Team Time, without a valid reason), there will now be consequences, shown below.
- Every time a student is seriously late, they will receive a card that explains about our expectation and the consequences. Parents will be notified via MyChildAtSchool.
