The Work Experience programme at HSBC UK offers a five-day shadowing experience to students in the later years of full-time secondary education, sixth form or college. The programme has been set up with the idea to help young people from different social-economic backgrounds to gain an insight into a professional environment, as well as the banking industry.

We have over 200 Work Experience opportunities nationwide, all of which will be available for one week with a mix of hybrid working (1 day in the office and four days virtually).

Dates:

  • Week commencing 20th June 2022
  • Week commencing 4th July 2022
  • Week commencing 1st August 2022

The application process will entail some online questions and, if successful, a telephone interview. To help prepare for this, we recommend checking out our Application Hints and Tips.

A telephone interview will be arranged with the student during the office hours (Monday to Friday), HSBC UK would request the schools/colleges allow the student to attend this interview during school hours where possible.

Our placements will be spread out across the UK and students can list their location preferences when applying, but please note that we cannot make any guarantees on placing a student in their preferred location as this is subject to availability.

The closing date for applications is 16th of February 2022, however we do offer these on a rolling basis and do reserve the right to close some adverts early if we fill all our spaces. Places are limited so we recommend students apply as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

The Medic Portal

We are all aware that getting work experience is a huge challenge for aspiring medics and this has been largely compounded by COVID. We are therefore delighted to have a genuinely brilliant solution.

We have partnered up with Kissing It Better, a leading charity who have been recognised by NHS England and the BMA. They have recently been featured heavily on the news for their excellent work in supporting older, isolated people in Care Homes.

Through our joint programme, we are giving students the opportunity to connect with these people through Zoom coordinated sessions to build up the key skills they will need during their medical training and career, while also importantly supporting a vulnerable demographic.

Alongside the live Zoom calls, there is a suite of learning modules to help students get the most out of this unique volunteering opportunity.

This programme has already been joined by over 500 students and has received amazing feedback. The programme runs in different countries and live Zoom sessions will be taking place to accommodate for global time zones.
