Step into OxMed

STEP into OxMed (STudents for Engagement and Participation in Teaching and Outreach, Oxford Medicine), a student-led group from Oxford University that is passionate about widening participation in medical school. We have run extensive programmes to help prospective medical students apply to university.

We’re emailing you to invite your students to attend our upcoming series of online talks focused broadly on medicine and science. These talks will be hosted by medical students, doctors and clinician-scientists at various stages of their career.

As detailed in the attached poster, the fields we will be covering are:

  • The modern GP Scientist
  • Prehospital medicine and the air ambulance crew
  • Neurosurgery and global surgery
  • Medical student work-life balance and advice for getting in

The complete talk list is outlined in the attached advertisement. Please note there will also be a winter series in September later this year.

We hope this series will attract students both interested in and vaguely considering the idea of applying to study medicine across Years 11-13. We understand that at this stage, it might be too early for students to make a decision, but we would like to introduce them to a variety of topics and welcome any questions they might have. The talks will run weekly on Wednesday from 25/05 – 15/06 at 6-7pm.

If this sounds like something your students would be interested in, please distribute the attached advertisement, which includes a link to the sign-up form, to your students.

Please tell students to complete the sign-up form before Monday 23rd May. We only have a limited number of spaces due to Zoom capacity so please encourage your students to sign-up ASAP to have the best chance of being enrolled to the series.

Oxford for North West are excited to announce a series of webinars that will be taking place throughout May and June 2022 to support state school Year 12 / first year of Sixth Form College students from the North West who are interested in finding out more about studying at the University of Oxford before they make their university applications. All the sessions will take place on Zoom and are free to attend. There is no obligation to attend all sessions so please choose which ones most interest you. These sessions will be run by Oxford Outreach Officers and supported by Student Ambassadors, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and to gather information about whether Oxford would be the right university for you!

How to prepare for Open Days

Wednesday 1st June | 17:00 – 18:00

We are very excited that, after two years of having to take place online, Oxford University’s Open Days are happening IN PERSON this summer on 29th and 30th June! If you are hoping to come and visit us, it’s sensible to plan your day in advance and think about what you want to prioritise. Which Colleges and Departments do you want to see? Do you want to meet any Tutors or Admissions staff? What questions would you like answers to? In this session we will be talking about how to best prepare for in-person Open Days to make the most out of the experience and get all the information that you need in order to make informed choices.

To register your interest in any of these sessions, please complete this form:

Please ensure that you fill out the sign-up form at least 24 hours in advance of the session you wish to attend. We will send out Zoom links for each session on the day and we ask you kindly not to circulate these with anyone so we can ensure that the Zoom call is a safe space for prospective applicants and for our Outreach staff who will be supporting you.
