COURSE DESCRIPTION - General overview of course
- How did Jaguar create the model X?
- Why do some firms make huge sales but still suffer a loss at the end of the year?
- “To crush squash and slaughter Yamaha” (Honda mission statement).
Questions like these and many more are answered when you enrol onto an Advanced level Vocational Business Course.
Applied Business is a lively and thought-provoking course and students will have the
opportunity to develop an interest in and gain knowledge of many issues within the business world today.

WHAT THE COURSE WILL INVOLVE :
At AS level you will cover the following areas:
- Investigating People at Work (Internally assessed)
- Financial Planning and Monitoring (externally assessed)
- People in Business (internally assessed)
In Year 13 you will then go on to study:
- Business Planning (internally assessed)
- Managing People (externally assessment)
- Optional unit (internally assessed)
The course is taught via a combination of classroom teaching, field trips where possible and analysis of real businesses.
REQUIREMENTS: (skills/knowledge/qualifications you will need to have to follow the course)
Students should have at least 5 GCSE’s at grade ‘C’ or above and be competent in numeracy and communication.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE you will develop on the course
- This is a practical way of learning about how businesses operate.
- You will study real businesses and gain many of the personal skills required by
them as well as universities if you decide to further your studies.
FORM OF ASSESSMENT/EXAMINATION
What you must do for 3 Unit Award AS Level – Year 12
- Two internally assessed portfolios.
- One externally assessed examination.
In Addition - What you must do for 6 Unit Award A Level - Year 13
- One internally assessed portfolio
- One externally assessed examination
- One optional unit (to be decided)
PROGRESSION - What the course can lead to
Universities recognize this as a useful grounding for management, business or interna-tional business degrees. In addition, it is a useful preparation for : Setting
up your own business; any trainee management position e.g. M & S.
Or careers in: Banking
Marketing
Advertising
Accounting
Human resource management
Stock exchange
Teaching
