Pupils : Library

Introduction

The Library is situated in the Library building in L70. The Library staff are available to give any help or advice that you require. The library is run by Mrs Basinger who is the College Librarian, with help from Mrs Cunliffe (Tues/ Wed AM). The college library has recently updated its book borrowing system, this is all now completely computer based. Students can find, reserve, and review books directly from the College's intranet library services.

Library The library provides many resources and services. The main resource is book based. There are approximately 12,000 books in the library and they are divided into three main sections:

Fiction Fiction or storybooks are found in the main school area of the library. They are arranged alphabetically by the Author’s surname and include quick reads, sixth form/adult fiction, thrillers, war stories, teenage romance and other genres.

Library Non-Fiction
Non-fiction or information books are located in the study area of the library. They are arranged in Dewey classification order, which is numerical. The library has an alphabetical subject index to help locate information books on the shelves.

Reference
Reference books include encyclopaedias, atlases and dictionaries. They can be found next to the computer bank but cannot be borrowed from the library.

Library CONNEXIONS
The Connexions Careers Library is also based in the College library. It contains University prospectuses, help on applying to university, Clips information, Careers database and other books and materials. Connexions staff are also available for help and guidance.

Other resources and services include:
* Book loans of fiction and non-fiction * Reservations of popular titles * Help with book and internet research * Computers for research and word processing/ help with computer problems * Printing of homework and coursework * Project loans from the School Library Service * Book Fairs * Scholastic Book Clubs * Radical Readers Reading Club * Careers Advice * Pupil Librarians scheme in conjunction with Duke of Edinburgh Award
