The 16-19 Bursary Fund has been set up by the government in order to meet the needs of those in post-16 studies. If you receive the bursary, you can use the money to pay for things such as:
- Clothing, books and other equipment
- Transport to college
- Food and drink
There are two levels of Bursary, the Discretionary award and the Vulnerable Bursary. To qualify for the Discretionary bursary, your household income must be less than a set amount; payment is linked to attendance and behaviour.
The Vulnerable Bursary is for students who are in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit, a Care Leaver, in the care of the local authority or in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Personal Independence Payments.
