Members of the Stuttgart Council Visit Cowley

On Friday, 6th July, the College was visited by members of the Stuttgart Council from Germany, who included the Deputy Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr Martin Schairer, along with Councillors, MPs and members of the education sector from both Stuttgart and St Helens who are involved in the 70th Anniversary Celebrations of the twinning of our 2 towns.

The group were welcomed into the College by the voices of the Cowley Senior Choir performing ‘The Circle of Life’ and ‘The Rhythm of Life’ before they visited the Food Technology rooms to see our Year 9 students cooking alongside our guests from the Porsche Gymnasium in Stuttgart. The event celebrated the connections between our towns and aimed to strengthen the peaceful partnership that we have created over the last 70 years.

Our students have been visiting the Porsche Gymnasium in Stuttgart throughout 2018 and earlier this year they collaborated with the German students to design a flag that will be hung in both towns during the celebrations. Read about this visit here.

A winner has been chosen and it was produced by one of our Year 11 students who was presented with her prize by the Deputy Mayor of Stuttgart, Dr Martin Schairer and Marie Rimmer MP. The Stuttgart Council awarded her with an all-expenses paid trip to Stuttgart for one week, to be involved with the events surrounding the 70th Anniversary celebrations. If you would like to see the design in person, the winning flag is being displayed in St Helens Town Hall throughout July.
