high achieving y11 students visit oxford university

On Friday 24th January, 15 Year 11 high achieving students enjoyed a day at Oxford University. The visit was to give GCSE students a better insight into what studying a degree course at a top university would be like.

The visit was made up of students from Cowley and Haydock High as part of the successful federation between the two schools.

Students took part in a number of workshops, as well as being given a tour of the campus.

The trip was organised by Mr Watkins, Assistant Headteacher at Cowley and also co-ordinator of the Year 11 high achievers’ ‘Climb to 9’ programme at both schools. This programme looks to support the most able to achieve top grades in their GCSEs.

By the end of the day, all agreed that they had a much better grasp of what being an undergraduate at a top university was like – a great benefit when it comes to making A-Level choices.
