Ethan Jones, a Year 12 student at Cowley Sixth Form College, has had a film review published in movie magazine Empire.
Ethan, who is currently studying A-Levels in English, English Literature, Film Studies and History, entered a competition to write a review on a film that made Empire’s 100 Greatest Movies of the 21st Century.
The 150 word review on the 2006 film The Prestige (starring Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale) was published in January’s publication of Empire.
On having his review published, Ethan said: “I entered this competition a day before the deadline and didn’t have chance to think too much about whether it would or wouldn’t win.
“To have my review published in a magazine such as Empire is brilliant and I am still in shock!”
Ethan has been writing reviews for a number of years and has his own blog that he frequently updates.
This isn’t the first time that Ethan has had his work published. Last year, he had a film review published by a local paper – a brilliant feat when taking into account that Ethan would have been in Year 11 at the time!
Ethan offered some advice to budding writers out there, based on his own experiences:
“I have entered many writing competitions and not heard back. Though this can be disheartening, my advice to others would be don’t be put off by not winning and believe in yourself.”
