Cowley teacher wins ‘Teacher of the Year’ at the Educate Awards

Cowely was recognised in two awards categories, Teacher of the Year, and Outstanding Commitment to Sport at the Educate Awards ceremony that took place on Friday 15 November 2019.

The awards, the largest education awards in the North West, were held at Liverpool Anglican cathedral.

More than 700 guests gathered for the ceremony and the evening was hosted by radio presenter Simon ‘Rossie’ Ross.

During the evening, Mr Edwards, Teacher of History and Mandarin Chinese, was presented with the coveted Teacher of the Year Award.

A teacher with almost 30 years’ experience, Mr Edwards has been the tour-de-force behind the introduction of two successful programmes at Cowley: The Cowley Honours Programme and The Mandarin Excellence Programme.

His enthusiasm, passion and drive is described as infectious and he is regarded very highly and is incredibly popular with students, parents and colleagues.

On winning the award, Mr Edwards said: “I was quite shocked to see my name come on the screen to announce that I had won.  Hearing the PE department and former students cheer me on as I made my way down the red carpet to collect my award is a stand-out moment of the evening for me.

“This, by far, is the proudest moment in my teaching career.”

We send our sincere congratulations to Mr Edwards and to our PE department who were shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Commitment to Sport in Secondary School’ category.
