70th Anniversary of the Twinning of St Helens and Stuttgart

A group of our Year 11 and Sixth Form students were in Stuttgart during half term as official guests of the Stuttgart Mayor and the Porsche Gymnasium. They collaborated on an art project with the international students at the College for the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the twinning of St Helens town and Stuttgart City. Here are a selection of their completed designs that will be printed onto flags and hung in our College and in Stuttgart during the celebrations in June and July.

The College was visited on Friday, 11th May by a group of German staff and students from the Porsche Gymnasium in Stuttgart as part of the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the twinning of
St Helens town and Stuttgart city. Our Year 7 students took part in a range of workshops with the international students and each English student was matched with a German “buddy” to show around the College and to take part in the activities with.

The students in our Languages group made PowerPoint presentations with their German buddies, with the English students writing in German and the German students in English. They then helped to correct each other’s spellings and grammar to enhance their work.

The art group traced around different landmarks from St Helens and Stuttgart to create outlines that will be made into a colouring book that can be used by local schools in both St Helens and Stuttgart.

In the afternoon, both groups of students traveled to the Town Hall where they were greeted by the Mayor before visiting the World of Glass to end their day of activities together.
