WHAT IS ENGLISH LITERATURE?
If you’re passionate about reading, then English Literature is the qualification for you. By encountering a range of views and emotions in modern and classic texts, students can explore important issues such
as gender, race, relationships, culture and justice while voicing their own opinions. Our course is challenging and also fun with plenty of theatre trips and film screenings to enjoy.
WHY STUDY ENGLISH LITERATURE?
Students of English Literature are rare and wonderful beings: curious, thoughtful and articulate. And studying this qualification will get you places as English Literature is seen as a facilitating subject, taken by
many top students. Having this qualification on your CV will help with applications to Russell Group universities and supports a wide range of careers, including law, business, the media and creative industries.
To study at Cowley Sixth Form College, you must have achieved a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent, graded 9 – 4, across four separate subjects, including GCSE Mathematics and English Language.
In addition, a positive college interview is required.
In addition, a grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language or English Literature is required.

WHAT CAN I DO WITH AN A-LEVEL IN ENGLISH LITERATURE?
Many students go on to study for degrees in Law, Social Sciences and Languages; the imaginative aspects lend themselves well to the growing area of creative writing.
