Cowley students complete Beacon Project with St Helens Fire Service

Six students from Cowley International College have successfully completed the Beacon Project with St Helens Fire Service.

The pupils took part in the 12-week course (one day a week) which is ran by Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service.

The aims of the course are to: help instil fundamental fire service principles of self discipline, leadership and teamwork; develop wider key skills in communication, problem solving and working with others; and to engage and educate young people to be fire safe citizens.

Students carried out activities such as practical fire service activities (using hoses, fire extinguishers, breathing apparatus, hydrants, search & rescue techniques), First Aid and Community Safety Awareness (hoax calls, arson, safety in the home, bonfire & firework safety).

To mark their successful completion of the course, the College acknowledged their achievement with a presentation from Executive Principal Mr Sheeran on the final day of last term.

Well done and congratulations to Ebony, Kacie, Tom, Joe, Alfie and Connor.

Garry Oakford, Area Manager for Prevention at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, thanked the students via the following video message:
