October is Black History Month. This national celebration aims to promote and celebrate Black contributions to British society, and to foster an understanding of Black history in general.
Black History Month 2022
We have a calendar for October which features 31 key historical black figures from History to coincide with the 31 days of October, Black History Month.
The History department is running a Black History Month essay competition to go alongside the activities which will be going on in lessons.
The competition is open to all students, Years 7-13, and requires pupils to write a short 500-word piece about the importance or contribution to society/history of someone who is black, but only one person.
The calendar above will provide you with at least 31 figures to choose from.
When you have completed your essay, send it via email to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Prizes: There will be prizes on offer for the best essays! 1st prize – £20 voucher, 2nd prize – £10 voucher, 3rd prize – copy of David Olusoga’s book ‘Black and British’.
The deadline for competition entries is Wednesday 19th October, with the winners to be announced on Thursday 20th October.
