A Cowley Sixth Form College student has aced the HSK (Level 1) exam after just one year of studying Mandarin Chinese.
Year 13 Student, Holly Mason-Lawlor scored an impressive 96 per cent in the exam that looks to assess non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives.
Mr Edwards, teacher of Mandarin Chinese said: “Holly has done phenomenally well. To achieve an almost perfect mark in this exam after just one year of study is remarkable and we are really proud of her.
“Special mention must go to our Chinese language classroom assistant, Miss Shi, who gave Holly 1-2-1 support, guidance and help in the run up to the exam.”
Reflecting on the exam score, Holly said: “I was over–the–moon on getting this result; I honestly didn’t think I would do so well. I have really enjoyed studying Mandarin Chinese and am looking forward to studying this at UCLAN later this year.”
Mandarin Chinese is an enrichment activity that students who study at Cowley Sixth Form College can sign up for.
Holly, who will complete her studies at Cowley Sixth Form this summer, is looking to study Mandarin Chinese at the University of Central Lancashire with a view to teaching English in China in the future.
