Dear Parent/Carer,

RE: Y8 Parents’ evening 10th March 4-7pm

It is wonderful news that we can now hold parents’ evenings in the College building.  I understand this will be the first ‘proper’ Cowley parents’ evening for Y8 and we very much look forward to meeting you in person and giving you the opportunity to hear about your child’s progress.

Parents’ evenings are the most important meetings in the college calendar.  Statistics tell us that on average students perform two grades better at GCSE if their parents come to parents’ evenings.  This shows us that the partnership between College and home is vital.

As this is your first parents’ evening there will be:

  • Talks from key staff about Y8 and moving to Y9
  • Chance to meet all your child’s teachers, the year team and senior staff
  • Opportunity to win a uniform voucher (over £200 in vouchers available)
  • Opportunity to win 1 of 3 places for our amazing Y8 residential (Quinta)
  • Chance to look around the college and see where your child learns each day

The evening will start at 4pm and finish at 7pm.  Please come to the main entrance on the 11-16 site and sign in with the year team.   Over the next week, your child will be collecting appointments from each of their teachers which will enable you to plan your evening.

What happens if you cannot make the parents’ evening?

As I have mentioned, it is a very important evening and I encourage parents to prioritise this evening and rearrange other appointments.  If this is not possible, please send another named adult we have on the system, e.g., grandparent, uncle, auntie.

How will the College be responding to COVID during parents’ evening?

We will be using more rooms to reduce congestion, ensuring adequate ventilation, and providing hand sanitiser.  If parents wish to wear face coverings, these will be available free of charge on arrival.

What if my child loses their appointments and I have no record?

Please turn up and the year team will help you, so you meet all the teachers.

I look forward to seeing you Thursday 10th from 4pm.

Best wishes,

Mr Cormack
