Letter to all parents & carers

21st June 2021

Dear Parent/Carer,

COVID update – Monday 21st June 2021

Current situation

It is good to see that Home Testing has increased and results are being logged on Report a COVID-19 rapid lateral flow test result – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) every Sunday and Wednesday; please continue with this routine.  As an extra level of protection, we are also conducting assisted testing with all students twice a week at college.  From today, it looks like cases have stabilised, however, there are some cases still being identified from those students who are not in college.

Monday 28th June

We are looking forward to welcoming Y8 and Y10 students back to college on Monday 28th June.  There will be further communication this week, including an assembly from your child’s HOA to ensure they have a slick return with all the right equipment and uniform.  Please keep checking the website and social media for updates.

Learning and lessons at home

I am receiving some wonderful comments from teachers to say how involved and organised students are with their remote lessons.  It is great to see their Cowleian Independence and Aspiration shining through.  Teachers are continuing to deliver the curriculum, so these lessons are key to ensure your child does not fall behind.  Please continue to support your child to be organised and disciplined with their home learning.

PCR tests

Public Health England (PHE), has asked all parents of Y8 and Y10 students to book their child a PCR test in order to identify any further positive cases and reduce community transmission.  However, regardless of the outcome of the PCR test, PHE has directed the college to isolate all Y8 and Y10 students until 28th June.  If you are a key worker, please do get in touch with the year team and we may be able to help.

End of year exams

As you will be aware, we should have been starting our exams this week.  This is a chance for your child to show themselves, you and their teachers the progress they have made this year.  We have postponed these exams for Y8 & Y10 and those isolating.  Teachers will be choosing a suitable time to take these exams when students return.

Thank you to all the parents who have either called or emailed with their comments of gratitude to staff who are working tirelessly to ensure your child is supported and learning continues.  We really appreciate the comments; it means a great deal when we pass these messages to staff.

As always, if there is anything we can do to help, please contact the year team.
