On Thursday 5th November, a number of Cowley Sixth Form students took part online in the Senior Maths Challenge 2020, ran by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT).
Prior to sitting the 90-minute challenge, support was provided by the Maths department, including completing past papers, to give the students the best chance of doing well.
The Senior Mathematical Challenge is a 90-minute, multiple-choice competition aimed at students across the UK.
It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.
The problems on the Senior Mathematical Challenge are designed to make students think and is a very tough exam.
We extend our congratulations to all the Cowleians who took part, with a special well done going to Scott Bond for achieving a bronze medal, Ben Carter for achieving the silver medal and Jasmina Rai for achieving a gold medal and making it through to the Senior Kangaroo, which is a further challenge for gold medal students.
This is the first time in five years that a Cowley student has qualified for the further test, showing what a great achievement it is. The Senior Kangaroo is a 60-minute competition of 20 problems and is only open to the top performing students.
Many thanks to our Maths department who have helped those students take part in this challenge once again this year.
