We have been blessed with some mild weather for the start of this winter season. However, this will not continue, and we need to prepare ourselves. Cowley is following PHE and DfE guidance by having good ventilation in classrooms to prevent the spread of the virus. We are fortunate that we have a modern and high-quality heating system that regulates the temperature in the building, however, it could become cold for students who are sat near open windows. In this situation, the teacher may give permission for students to wear coats in the lesson. This permission does not extend to corridors and social/dining areas, as these areas are warm and well ventilated.
Saying this, there are other things that you can do to help your child be comfortable in the cold weather and which fits with our uniform policy. http://www.cowley.st-helens.sch.uk/index.php/uniform-footwear-and-equipment/
Wearing a pullover
Our policy states, “Pullover (Optional) Black, wool type v-neck only (no sweatshirts)”. We recommend that students use this option during the winter months.
Wearing a base layer
We recommend that students wear a suitable base layer under their college shirt.
Our policy states, “Dark coloured anorak or coat. No leather or denim”
Currently many of our students are using a ‘hoody’ as a coat – these hoodies are for outdoor use only.
I hope you and your family are well and if there is anything the college can do to help, then please do get in touch with the year team.
