Letter to parents and carers

10th September 2021

Dear Parent and Carer,

Many thanks for your support with the strong start to the new college year.  It is wonderful to have all the students back and I am very impressed how students have arrived looking smart, with the correct equipment and a positive attitude to their learning.  Please continue to support the college with those daily checks to ensure we maintain the high standards of uniform, equipment and routines – the little things really do have a big impact.

Home COVID testing

The testing in College has gone extremely well this week.  Students have responded to this with maturity and independence, showing their social responsibility.  I thank parents, staff and the LA for their support.  We now move to home testing.  Home testing kits have been distributed today and students will bring these home this afternoon.  We will continue with our two designated testing times each week.  At Cowley, we home test every Sunday and every Wednesday.  Please arrange for your child to complete these tests on these two days and record the test here Report a COVID-19 rapid lateral flow test result – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).  It is very important that you record every negative and positive result.  If your child tests positive, then please arrange for a PCR test, and contact the college.

Class Charts

You will have received your logon details for the new platform we are using for attendance, rewards and behaviour.  Please download the app and this will provide you with ‘live’ daily information about your child.  In just the first few days we are seeing the wonderful options Class Charts gives staff and parents to reward students and monitor their attendance and behaviour.  For those parents who are struggling with Class Charts, Mr Bennett will be posting a ‘how to guide’ on the college website for him to present some of the many features for parents.

Mobile Phones

The college rule remains “phones should not be seen or heard inside the building”.  Phones will be confiscated, and a detention issued if your child chooses not to follow this basic and fair rule.  Please continue to help your child build these positive routines and understanding that there are appropriate and inappropriate times and places to use mobile phones.

It is great to talk to students about the books they have been reading over the summer break.  Please continue to have punctuated time each evening when reading is prioritised at home and continue to listen to your child read if they are in lower school.

Best wishes,

Mr Cormack
