Cowley’s Les Misérables an ‘absolutely amazing production’

Cowley’s whole school production of Les Misérables another resounding success

Musical productions at Cowley International College returned in some style with more than 800 people enjoying six performances of the long running hit musical, Les Misérables.

Famous for its impressive Performing Arts, including the highly popular Professional Musical Theatre course available at Cowley Sixth Form, this year’s Cowley production earned rave reviews from its audience and gave the opportunity to students from throughout the College, all the way from Year 7 to Year 13, to tread the boards.

Audience members took time to send the College their thoughts on the show, with comments including: “It was an absolutely amazing production”, “We loved it!”, “It was amazing!”, “I enjoyed every minute of it” and “The cast should be so proud”.

Cowley’s edition of Les Misérables, which has been voted the greatest musical of all time, ran throughout October and was the first time the College has been able to run a public performance since 2019 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

A professional 13-piece orchestra, professional sound team and equipment alongside a top-class props and costume package only added to the wonderful performances put in by the students.

Mr Watkins, Head of Performing Arts at Cowley, said: “It has been a tough couple of years for everyone, so it was great to put on a show for people to enjoy.

“The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelming and we’d like to thank everyone who attended and those who have been in touch since to share their thoughts.

“The students and staff all worked tirelessly to ensure the production was the best it could possibly be, and they all produced outstanding performances across each of the six shows. I’m extremely proud of them.”

The College’s Headteacher, Mr Cormack, is delighted that the Cowley community were able to see the production come to life after last year’s event had to be cancelled due to COVID restrictions.

He explained: “After what has been a difficult time for everybody, it was a joy to be able to invite the community back into the College to see the fantastic production.

“The whole school musical really is one of the highlights of the College calendar and it’s great that we have students from across the entire College involved in it.

“As ever, it was a brilliant show and demonstrated just what a talented group of students we have here at Cowley.”
