On Monday 3rd February, 37 Year 7 students from Cowley and 36 students from two other schools, Calday Grange and Ripley St Thomas, participated in an Intensive Learning Day at Cowley which was especially arranged for Year 7 students on the Mandarin Excellence Programme (MEP).
This will be the first time that Cowley has hosted this event in keeping with our new MEP “Hub School” status.
The Intensive Learning Day included classroom, theatre and cuisine based activities, allowing our MEP students to gain rich learning experiences in Chinese language and culture.
The language sessions and workshop has given all Year 7 MEP students the opportunity to deepen and apply their language knowledge. The day culminated in delicious Chinese cuisine with chopsticks, followed by fortune cookies.
With future Intensive Days planned and a trip to China later this year, there is clear emphasis on the importance given to studying Mandarin and the college’s commitment in delivering outstanding opportunities for all students. Complete immersion in the language from Year 7 until the end of Year 11 enables students to become true global citizens.
