Young Carers in Schools Event

On Friday, 7th October 2016, St Helens Young Carers Centre are holding a “Young Carers in Schools” Event, in conjunction with the Carers Trust, The Children’s Society, Young Carers in Focus and Cowley International College. Young Carers in School is an exciting England-wide initiative that makes it as easy as possible for schools to support Young Carers and awards good practice.
Run jointly by The Carers Trust, The Children’s Society and Young Carers in Focus partners, the event is for those who work in schools and local young carers’ services across England to share good practice, provide relevant tools and training, and to celebrate the great outcomes that many schools achieve for young carers.
Schools across St Helens will be taking part and the Mayor has been invited as well as Jane Dearden MBE DL, Chair of Trustees at St Helens Carers Centre.
Young Carers in School is an exciting England-wide initiative that makes it as easy as possible for schools to support Young Carers and awards good practice.
The event will help those who attend to:
- Find out the latest about Ofsted’s approach to young carers as well as young carers’ new legal rights and what these means for schools
- Review their provision against the award criteria and celebrate what they already have in place
- Participate in guided activities enabling them to prioritise and take concrete steps to increase identification and improve outcomes for young carers, as well as apply to the Young Carers in Schools Award
- Gain clarification about the award process
About St Helens Young Carers Centre
St Helens Young Carers Centre is currently supporting over 550 Young Carers. We provide full assessments, reviews and support to Young Carers and their families, including; Sign posting to other relevant services, 1:1 support around their caring role, young carer breaks funding up to £250, regular respite activities, weekly after school drop in service during the term time, information and advice and regular newsletters.
